Abhishek’s Tough Tournament

Ranked as the No.1 T20I batter, Abhishek Sharma as endured a challenging campaign. Despite scoring a half-century against Zimbabwe in the Super 8 stage, the left-hander has failed to convert starts into impactful innings. In a crucial clash against the West Indies, he managed just 10 runs before falling to spin once again.

Across six matches, Abhishek has scored only 80 runs and suffered three ducks during the group stage, raising concerns ahead of India’s high-stakes semi-final against England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Ponting’s Advice: Step Back to Move Forward

Ponting believes the solution is not necessarily more net practice but mental rejuvenation.

“Sometimes, when you're going through a bit of a slump, it's not always best to bat for hours every day. It can be better to step away for a couple of days and mentally freshen up. The skills don't go anywhere. You don’t lose your skills.”

The former Australian skipper emphasized that confidence and mental clarity are often more important than technical tweaks during rough patches.

Big Moment Ahead

With India set to face England in the semi-final, Abhishek’s form at the top could prove decisive. Ponting’s blueprint suggests that trusting natural ability and staying mentally relaxed may be the key to rediscovering rhythm on the big stage.
